Benny and Joon (1993)

This movie was being watched the year I was born; I got to see it last year when the year was semi-old. A sweet moment ago the thought of this film came into my head, very warmly received of course. I started to remember how much I savoured the scenes with my eyes and heart, and how I amplified my enjoyment with my laughter at the characters' lovely quirkiness. I remember it enjoying so very much, so I thought I'd post about it.

Joon (whom I think is rather pretty) is a mentally ill young lady who lives with her brother Benny. Benny takes care of his sister and although he means well, he's sometimes too overprotective with her because of her state. She's very smart, and weird in a way I think is awesome, and she paints. Sam, a comedic Charlie Chaplin kinda fella drops into their life for a reason I can't recall at the moment and stays at their house. He takes care of Joon while Benny works and makes her really interesting grilled cheese with an iron on an ironing board. He entertains her with his comedic tricks as well. They fall in love. Its amusing yet adorable, and it makes me smile and chuckle.

This one of my favourite dialogues in the movie:

SAM: You don't like raisins?

JOON: Not really.
SAM: Why?

JOON: They used to be fat and juicy and now they're twisted. They had their lives stolen. Well, they taste sweet, but really they're just humiliated grapes. I can't say I am a big of the raisin council.
SAM: Did you see those, those raisins on TV? The ones that sing and dance and stuff?

JOON: They scare me.
SAM: Yeah me too.
JOON: It's sick. The commercial people they make them sing and dance so people will eat them.
SAM: It's a shame about raisins.

JOON: Cannibals.
SAM: Yeah. Do you like avocados?
JOON: They're a fruit you know.
SAM: Ruthie, do you got any avocados?
